ASUS introduced a smaller version of the PadFone, a mobile phone that docks into a tablet form factor.
The regular full size PadFone has a 4-inch mobile phone docking into a 10-inch tablet, and ASUS and AT&T just partnered to bring the latest version, the PadFone X, to the US market. The mini version uses a similar 4-inch phone and it docks into a 7-inch tablet.
The PadFone concept has been a hit product outside of the US, and it is a great use of resources for folks who do not usually share tablets with anyone. Without duplicating the processor, memory and many other hardware features, a phone can seamlessly turn into a tablet computer. For the folks who usually share tablets with other members of the family, the PadFone may present some challenges, as sharing the PadFone tablet would be similar to sharing the phone itself. Most families share tablets, but they usually do not share phones.
That being said, the PadFone mini is a capable machine with Intel Atom as its processor, and the tablet station is a reasonably good 7-inch tablet with 1280 x 800 WXGA IPS+ display.
The phone and the tablet each come with its own battery. The PadFone is a dual micro SIM machine, which is useful for separating business and personal use.
