Review HTC Desire 601 »
HTC introduced its mid-level smart phone, the Desire 601. Even though the Desire 601 is designed to be a new mid-grade phone in HTC's portfolio, it is strikingly similar to the top of the line phones from a couple of years ago.

From the 1.4GHz dual-core processor to 4.5" qHD display and 1GB RAM, the specifications resemble a lot like the flagship phones that many used-to-be state-of-the-art phone buyers, who are now waiting for their two year contracts to expire, currently own.

It begs to wonder if so much has changed in past two years in term of people's mobile data consumption. The processing speed and data capacity seemed to have more than doubled in past two years, yet most people are still content with the same level of data usage as before.

Other than the folks who must own the latest, for vanity reasons or for real productivity/entertainment purposes, most people would be over-buying a mobile computing unit if everyone went for the latest flagship phones. In that sense, the HTC Desire 601 perfectly serves the need of regular everyday folks, who use their phones to converse, text, occasionally surf, and do light productivity/entertainment stuff.

HTC will be rolling out the Desire 601 in select markets starting October.
