Review Motorola DROID Mini »
Motorola's DROID Mini is a one-hand operational version in the DROID family available exclusively on Verizon.

The DROID Mini is powered by Motorola's own X8 Mobile Computing System, which uses 8 cores: 2 for applications, 4 as GPU, and 2 additional low-voltage cores as standby.

As a one-hand phone, the size is almost identical to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, which is slightly bulkier than the ultimate one-hand device, the Apple iPhone 5.

Motorola's new chip set has not been comparison tested in the new device against its competitors, but just on specs, the DROID Mini should run much faster than the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.

Motorola did not seem to have skimped out on this "mini" version of the DROID. The DROID Mini sports many of the high-end features, and the device, similar to other Motorola's flagship units, comes in a solid form factor. DuPont's KEVLAR fiber body is reminiscent of the latest Batman suit worn by Christian Bale. From the "touchless control" to Droid Zap (sharing pictures by sweeping two fingers) and TV mirroring, the Mini kept most functionalities of the larger Ultra version.

The DROID Mini does feel like just a miniaturized version of the larger DROIDs, whereas other brands' "mini" phones tend to lose a lot in specs from its namesake big-brothers.

As the benefits of carrier exclusivity are slowing dwindling, non-Verizon users may hope that the next version may become available on other carriers.

The Motorola DROID Mini is an attractive one-hand phone, and perhaps the best "mini" version yet.
