Review Sony Xperia Z1 »
Sony upgraded its flagship Xperia Z smartphone with a better camera, a faster processor and new sets of companion devices.

The Xperia Z1 is still water and dust proof, and now it comes installed Sony's "G Lens" with 27mm wide angle and F2.0 aperture, paired with 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile with 20.7MP and a BIONZ mobile image processing engine. What this means in plain English is that, according to Sony, the Xperia Z1 can take pictures with "the best overall image quality of all leading smartphones."

Sony upgraded the Z1 with the latest processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 800 with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU. It is a significant improvement over the predecessor Xperia Z's 1.5 GHz quad-core.

Lastly, Sony has introduced a whole set of companion devices for its mobile phones. Sony has made a strategic decision to go NFC on all of its products, and by the year-end, the Xperia Z1 will have over 100 companion devices, including the SmartWatch 2, headset, headphones, speakers, and the latest Cyber-shot QX.

Sony was somewhat late to the market in the smartphone arena, but now they are full-force back. Sony's products look better than ever. The Z1 will hit the stores worldwide by the end of September.
